JUMPCUT was first launched in 2001 at the now defunct Big Sky Mind as a platform for young Filipino independent filmmakers showcasing works that were not essentially film or video, but rather paintings that indicated a drastic departure from their usual medium. Coming full circle from that attempt to cross-practice in the visual arts, JUMPCUT 2 returns with a collection of video works by filmmakers operating within the loop of the independent art scene and alternative art spaces in Manila such Green Papaya Art Projects, Future Prospects, Furball, and Black Soup . The collection takes on specific references to Pinoy pop culture, and the pleasures and tragedies of everyday life in Manila as a vast underdeveloped metropolis, and reflects a vibrant community that continues to nourish its own independence.
